Since launching TriLok last week, we’ve received dozens of questions about the three-option attachment system. The most common one is also the most important:

“Why three options when I’ll probably only use one?”

It’s a great question—because the answer gets to the heart of how TriLok is engineered for real-world mechanical insulation work.

The Problem With One-Size-Fits-All Shields

Traditional shields assume jobsite consistency:

Same hanger types. Same access. Same clearances. Same hardware.

But mechanical rooms and multi-floor systems rarely behave that way.

Project Reality Check:

  • Floor 1: Clevis hangers throughout

  • Floor 2: Mix of clevis and band hangers

  • Floor 3: Existing hardware that accommodates bolting

  • Mechanical Room: Tight, obstructed access

  • Retrofit Areas: Irregular spacing and limited room for tools

With conventional shields, this means stocking multiple product types or forcing installers into methods that aren’t ideal for the situation.

How Three Options Solve Real Problems

To be clear: TriLok is installed with one attachment method at a time.

The value comes from having the right option available when conditions change—because they always do.

Scenario 1: High-Production Installations

Main distribution runs with standard clevis hangers benefit from strapping. It’s fast, familiar, and efficient.

Scenario 2: Permanent or Spec-Driven Mounting

Equipment connections or disciplines requiring long-term securement can use the bolt-through option—ideal where the hanger already includes hardware or allows for bolting.

Scenario 3: Tight Access or Retrofit Conditions

In areas where tool clearance is limited, TriLok accommodates tie-wire installation as a practical solution when conventional fastening isn’t possible.

TriLok gives installers the flexibility to choose the right method—not a forced method.

The Engineering Behind the Flexibility

Creating a shield that works effectively with three distinct attachment approaches required solving several engineering challenges:

Load Management

Each attachment method creates different stress patterns.

TriLok’s geometry is engineered and validated to distribute loads effectively, regardless of which method is used.

Material Strength

The body must handle:

  • Compression from strapping

  • Tension forces from bolting

  • Concentrated point pressure from tie-wire

Without deformation or jacket damage.

Edge & Safety Design

Smooth, controlled edges protect both installers and insulation jackets—reducing the likelihood of ASJ compromise during installation or adjustment.

What We’re Hearing From the Field

Kevin Lockwood, General Manager:

“The three-option approach isn’t about complexity—it’s about confidence. Installers know they’ll face different conditions on every job. TriLok gives them a shield that works with those conditions, not against them.”

Early Adopter Feedback:

  • Faster decision-making in the field

  • Lower inventory requirements (one shield for multiple conditions)

  • Better adaptation to unexpected jobsite challenges

  • Increased confidence in long-term performance

The Bigger Picture

TriLok represents a shift from:

“Make this shield work for the jobsite” → “Use a shield designed for real jobsites.”

Instead of forcing installers to adapt to product limitations, we engineered a product that adapts to the installer’s world.

This contractor-first approach will guide all future IC product development.

Where TriLok Excels

Large Commercial Projects

Fewer variations to coordinate—greater consistency across floors.

Retrofit Work

Flexible attachment options reduce rework and eliminate unnecessary hanger modification.

Mixed System Types

One shield solution for clevis, band hangers, and bolt-ready supports.

Emergency or After-Hours Repairs

Install using whatever attachment hardware is immediately available.

Looking Ahead

The three-option concept is already influencing our next generation of mechanical insulation accessories. Expect more “multi-solution, single-product” designs from Insulation Components.
